Maks Ovsiyenko is a Director of Applied Analytics and Business Intelligence at The University of Kansas Health System. He is leading the enterprise’s analytical efforts with a focus on transforming data into actionable information to support clinical, financial, operational, and strategic decision-making processes. Maks started his career with the health system on the strategy side of operations developing methods to improve strategy deployment and understanding its impact in a quantitative manner, before taking on a broader analytical leadership role.

Maks has an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from LCC International University and two master’s degrees from Park University (MBA and MHA). With over 11 years of experience in a healthcare industry, Maks is continually working with his teams to deliver meaningful information to the enterprise in the most efficient and effective manner.

While The University of Kansas Health System embarked on its data transformation journey in 2014, the health system needed to better leverage its data platform, analytics tools, and team to more rapidly improve their performance and the quality and speed of decision making in the organization. Specific objectives included understanding and improving the organization’s performance in safety, quality, effectiveness, efficiency, equity, access, and patient experience. Over three fiscal years, the organization has observed quality improvements in many areas, including a 0.69 O/E mortality rate for patients admitted to the hospital, $2.3 million in savings by reducing readmission rates, a 22.5 percent reduction in clostridioides difficile, and a 26 percent reduction in initial denials.
