Richard has worked in a variety of roles at Thibodaux Regional for over 26 years. After obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Nicholls State University in 1994, she practiced for 9 years in critical care, spending her first four years gaining invaluable experience as a bedside nurse and the latter 5 years in a leadership role as Unit Coordinator, even assuming an Interim Director position prior to her departure. In 2003, desiring more teaching contact with patients, she moved from critical care into an educator role to serve as both a diabetes and staff educator, performing individual counseling for behavior change with diabetes care, coordinating Nursing Orientation, and facilitating American Heart Association staff certification programs. With a desire to incorporate more wellness strategies into patient teaching, Richard completed a Wellness in Clinical Practice certification from the National Wellness Institute (spanning from 2014 – 2019) and then followed this certification with a Master of Arts in Health Studies/Health Promotion from the University of Alabama in 2017.
Throughout the years, Richard has been blessed with many honors. Awards include being designated Thibodaux Regional’s Nurse of the year in May of 2001, being awarded Team Member of the Month in both January 2005 and November 2017 and being honored as one of Louisiana’s Great 100 Nurses in 2007.
With a passion for improving the health and lifestyle habits of Louisiana residents, Richard moved into the Education and Training Coordinator leadership position in 2018 and is using the in-depth knowledge of behavior change theory obtained through her Health Promotion degree to positively impact macro and micro level behavior change. While overseeing Diabetes Education, Medical Nutrition Therapy, and Sports Nutrition services, Richard is now working as part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary team to grow medically integrated services through WellFit. Serving as WellFit’s process owner, Richard strives to expand WellFit services in order to significantly improve the health and quality of life of those in Thibodaux and its surrounding areas.
